New Schaefer 660: A Winner from Brazil

Today, when we think of larger, luxurious motoryachts, Brazil probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind. But Schaefer has built more than 3,500 yachts there in the past 31 years; it’s now Brazil’s largest builder, with models from 33 to 82 feet, and U.S. headquarters in Fort Lauderdale.

The new Schaefer 66 flybridge motoryacht compares well with other builders around the world. The 66 has modern lines that won’t go out of style but that are appealing to the eye. And the 66, with four cabins and three heads below, has all the room for cruising with a family or friends, while offering all the social zones inside and out to keep everyone happy on board. A nice touch: The master stateroom, located full-beam amidships, is reached by a staircase from the salon for privacy.

The helm is state-of-the-art with touchscreen panels, joystick maneuvering (for the standard 900-hp Volvo IPS1200 pod drives) and two matching adjustable captain’s seats. Large windows provide visibility all around. The galley is aft to serve the aft deck easily.

Large panels fold out from both sides of the aft deck to provide 25 percent more space there. But these are serious balconies, with railings to make them more secure.

Three steps on each side lead down to the teak swim platform. It can be submerged two feet underwater, and it’s large enough to hold a 1,700-pound tender.

At the other end of the Schaefer 66, a large settee and sun pad are on the foredeck for relaxing there. Up top, the flybridge is protected by a hardtop with an opening sun roof. Two helm seats are on the starboard side, opposite a large U-shaped settee and table.

Specs.:  LOA: 66’; Beam: 16’6”; Draft: 4’8”; Disp.: 79,789 lbs.; Fuel: 687 gals.; Water: 254 gals.; Power: 2×900-hp Volvo IPS1200 pod drives.
