Bolide 80: 73 Knots, Loro Piana Interior

You probably won’t want to take the new Bolide 80 on a trip around the Great Loop, but it sure would be fun for a run over to Bimini, or Key West, or Catalina. One thing’s for sure: It would get a lot of attention, wherever it goes.

The Bolide 80 looks fast and it is fast. Powered by three 2,000-hp MANs, that are staggered in the engine compartment, the Bolide 80 tops out at 73 knots. The long, low, aerodynamic hull has steps for efficiency; the Bolide has a range of 240 nm at 50 knots (not that it’s likely that you’d be cruising at 50 knots for 240 nm).

And it has plenty of luxury up top and down below, with two staterooms for four people, and lots of carbon fiber, marble, leather and interior fabrics by Loro Piana. The salon has carbon-fiber accents and an arch, designed by AI, that’s actually a structural support. LED lights in the ceiling can turn the salon into a nightclub at night.

The dresser drawers in the cabins have leather straps, instead of latches that could rattle. The en suite head has black marble, a sink with black handles, a black toilet, and a carbon-fiber bidet.

Bolide (“fireball” in Italian) is the brainchild of Brunello Acampora, who started Victory Marine 37 years ago. Victory designed the boat, which is built by Bolide Yachts in Pisa. Acampora made it for a client who wanted something different in the high-performance market.

Acampora used a lot of carbon-fiber composites for light weight, with some carbon-fiber exposed on the exterior for a space-age look. The Bolide 80 has black-nickel topsides with a gray cockpit. Three seats face the helm, with an F-1 racing-type steering wheel and a 32-inch electronics console.

Bolide is making the 80 as a limited edition yacht, and each one can be heavily customized. Base price is about $10 million.

The boat is 81’ 6” long with a beam of 17’ 7” and a draft of 4’ 9.”
