New, Fast, Eclipse 605 Shadow Express

Eclipse, the South African luxury express cruiser that’s sold in the US by HMY, is now making a 605 Shadow that’s powered by four 600-hp Mercury V12 outboards.

The regular Eclipse 605, with just three of the same outboards, tops out at more than 60 mph, so the new Shadow should gain at least another 5 mph or so, making it a very fast cruiser indeed.

The new Eclipse is designed by Michael Peters, the prolific Sarasota designer, who most recently has drawn hulls for Summit, Outback and Hinckley, among many others. The Eclipse 605 has Peters’ patented SVVT (Stepped Vee Ventilated Tunnel) hull for speed, stability and a soft ride.

The hull has two steps and a centered tunnel that runs aft with vertical walls on each side. The steps direct air to the tunnel, producing lift and reducing wetted surface. Meanwhile, the walls grip water when the boat turns, providing extra stability. Deadrise aft is 22.5 degrees.

The Eclipse 605S is a three-stateroom, three-head cruiser with stunning interiors by Silver Arrows Design. The fit-and-finish are superyacht quality. A flush deck makes moving around the aft deck and salon safe and comfortable, and there are entertaining spaces in the salon, aft deck and foredeck. Terraces drop down from the aft deck for more space. The yacht also has joystick controls for the four outboards, surround-view cameras and Starlink connectivity.

Eclipse yachts are made by the Two Oceans yard in Cape Town, which teamed up with HMY to introduce a line of blue-water power catamarans to the U.S. in 2021. They also make an Eclipse 505, with the same low-profile, Downeast-style lines as the 605.

Specs. (605S): LOA: 60’8”; Beam: 16’9”; Draft: 3’3”; Disp.: 44,004 lbs.; Fuel: 800 gals.; Water: 290 gals.; Power: 4×600-hp Mercury V12 outboards.
