New Jaktar 30 “Ready for Adventure”

The striking new Jaktar J30 adventure boat from Sweden just made its U.S. debut at the recent Seattle boat show.

The new all-aluminum Jaktar, with its strong, functional looks, is made for adventures and exploration in the far north. Indeed, the company says it is both “ready for adventure” and “engineered for exploration.”

For his part, Bart Bouwhuis, a partner of Vripack, the Dutch design studio, calls it “the utility knife of boats.”

With room to sleep four people, a small galley, enclosed head and shower, and fully enclosed helm deck, the Jaktar is ready to take a family on a cruise up the Inside Passage or just a weekend jaunt to a nearby cove; it’s also ready to bring them back in almost any kind of weather or conditions.

You can power it with twin outboards from 225-hp to 400-hp, producing a top speed of 32 to 52 knots, surely enough to deliver you to your next cruising destination, or to outrun an approaching storm.

The front cabin has a  U-shaped sofa and a bed, while the helm deck has two front seats with flip-up bolsters that can rotate to become part of the social scene aft. The galley has a fridge and gas stove. Windows provide excellent visibility all around.

One unusual feature: Push a button and a wing door opens from the front of the helm deck to the foredeck; you could beach the boat and then walk out and get off the bow. At the other end of the boat, the cockpit can hold half a dozen people.

Specs.: LOA: 31’7”; Beam: 8’3”; Draft: NA; Disp.: 7,495 lbs.; Fuel: 208 gals.; Water: NA; Power: 2×225-hp to 2×400-hp outboards.
