Fairline, the big British builder, is showing its sporty new Targa GT 50 at the Palm Beach show. It’s a two-stateroom, two-head, 33-knot cruiser with some luxury touches and contemporary lines.

Once you walk from the wide, submersible, teak swim platform into the cockpit, the Targa GT 50 is one large entertaining space, from the transom to the helm. There’s an L-shaped settee and a high-low table on the port side, and an outdoor wet bar with a grill, sink and entertainment system to starboard.

You can open three-part glass doors to the salon, where the galley is aft on the starboard side. (You can also have the galley down, if you want, in which case this becomes another seating area.) A dinette with another high-low table is on the port side.

Forward, on the starboard side, two luxurious leather seats face the helm, where a suite of Garmin electronics is standard. So is the joystick control to maneuver the 550-hp Volvo IPS700 pod drives. A two-person seat is opposite, so the captain can always have a lot of company if he or she wants.

Below, at the foot of the stairs, an L-shaped settee and yet another high-low table provide a private social area; a food-prep counter and lots of storage space are on the port side. The day head is forward, next to the VIP cabin, which has an island berth that can be converted into two single beds.

The master stateroom is full-beam amidships with cabinets on the port and starboard sides; they have leather facings. The master head is large with a separate shower.

The side decks are protected by high stainless railings leading forward. A two- or three-person sun pad is on the foredeck.

Specs.: LOA: 51’4”; Beam: 14’2”; Draft: 3’10”; Disp.: 29,760 lbs.; Fuel: 346 lbs.; Water: 127 gals.; Power: 2×550-hp Volvo IPS700 pod drives.
