Silent Launches First 62 Tri-Deck

Silent Yachts, the creative Austrian builder, just launched its first 62 solar/electric tri-deck at its yard in Fano, Italy. The blue-water catamaran, with a CE A certification, has a trans-oceanic range at its cruising speed of 6 to 8 knots.

The new Silent 62 is based on the company’s well-received 60, which won a Multihull of the Year Award and a Best of Boats Award when it was launched in 2021. It’s two feet longer, of course, but it has the third upper deck, giving it something of a superyacht flair.

The new Silent has a reverse bow and a beam of more than 29 feet, almost half its length, so there’s plenty of space all around. The 62 tri-deck has five guest cabins with heads, plus one crew cabin with a head.

The new third deck is available in three versions: an open sky lounge, a closed sky lounge, or an enclosed owner’s suite. In every version, the 62 has a front exit on the main deck so that guests can step directly from the salon to the foredeck.

The Silent 62 is notable for its state-of-the-art drivetrain, providing silent, emissions-free and renewable-energy cruising. The 62 has an array of 42 powerful solar panels producing 16.8 kWp, two 180 kW electric motors, and a 268 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack. There’s also a range extender with 145 kW peak. Silent says the 62 can cruise  up to 100 nm a day under solar power alone. The drivetrain includes sophisticated liquid-cooled, high-energy and high-capacity batteries with a fast charging time due to optimized thermal management.

The cat’s hydraulic swim platform can hold a tender up to 13’ 7”, but it’s really built for Silent’s own electric Tender 400.

Specs.: LOA: 62’; Beam: 29’5”; Draft: 4’1”; Disp.: 42.6 tons; Fuel: 500 gals.; Water: 528 gals.; Power: 2×180 kW electric motors.
