The large Hudson Yacht Group in China is building a new line of power catamarans, starting with a 63 and a 48. The new Hudson Powercats have lightweight wave-piercing asymmetrical hulls for performance and long range.

The 63 (pictured (without a flybridge) is powered by two 1,000-hp CAT diesels and has a retractable foiling system. It has a top speed of 35 knots and a range of more than 1,000  nm at 27 knots. An optional model made with carbon fiber and powered by water jets will top out at 40 knots, according to the company. It has a full-beam master stateroom, three ensuite cabins, a large, light-filled salon from atrium glazing, and room in the garage for a 21-foot tender. The cat’s beam is 26’ 2”.

The 48 is a smaller version of the 63, with a beam 22’ 4”, except that it has a flybridge and an optional Bimini overhead. The master stateroom is forward and runs from side to side; the VIP cabin is in the starboard hull with a queen bed, and the third cabin is in the port hull with twin beds.

The flybridge is large enough for a dining table aft that can seat 12 guests when it’s expanded. A sun bed is on the port side and a grill, sink and fridge are to starboard, aft of the helm. The salon has a modern galley, a dining table for eight, sofas and a bar. A three-panel sliding door opens aft to the cockpit, with a teak table for alfresco dining.

The 48 is powered by twin 270-hp Yanmars, producing a top speed of 24 knots and a range of 833 nm at 8 knots.

The Kit Carlier Design team and Stimson Marine Design, both in New Zealand, designed the new Hudson Powerboats.  Hudson is a well-established builder with its own yard in Xiamen, China, an international team of designers and builders, and 300 workers in its state-of-the-art facility. It is known for producing high-end sailboats so far.
