New Swedish Speedster from Viggo Yachts

Here is something a little different for Cruising Odyssey, a 60-knot, aluminum speedster with twin outboards and only basic accommodations. The builder, Viggo Yachts, is based in Oregrund Sweden where it builds only aluminum power boats, all of them designed and engineered for speed.

The C10 that was introduced recently, has a narrow beam and a double chined hull under the water. This configuration allows the boat to get up onto a plane very quickly despite the hull’s 24 degrees of deadrise.

The deep V hull, which is a sharper V than most hulls of this type, will provide those aboard with a smooth ride and a sense that the boat is on rails when turning at high speeds. The builder says that the hull is quiet as it flies over the waves and strong enough to weather storm conditions.

The helm looks like that of a fighter jet and one suspects that racing across the ocean at 60 knots would be a similar sensation to flying a jet. They both will blow you hair back and make your eyes water.

The C10 Offshore has an enclosed pilot house which is big enough to have a bench settee on one side and a U-shaped dinette on the other. The dinette can be converted into a double berth. Forward, the open cockpit has benches, a table and a sun bed.

Viggo says the design was created for fast transport inside and outside the country, which in Scandinavia would mean running fast to nearby Norway, Denmark, Finland and The Netherlands. In the States, the C10 could get you from New York City to Nantucket in  three hours. Yikes. Read more.
