Safehaven Marine, based in County Cork, Ireland, builds boats and small ships for just about every purpose in marine world. They build pilot boats, rescue craft, working boats for offshore oil rigs, naval vessels and yachts. Their motto is, “When you demand strength and seakeeping, turn to Safehaven.” The company’s crew also holds a world marine speed record in a boat of their own design and build.

So, it is not surprising that Safehaven’s yachts are both robustly built and endowed with excellent seakeeping characteristics. The new 70-foot T 2000 Voyager has all of the company’s DNA in a narrow-hulled, long-range catamaran that will take whatever the oceans throw at it.

Soon after hull number one was launched, the company’s team decided to sea trial it in a named storm with winds gusting to 70 knots and seas running to over 15 feet. The boat handled the seas and wind with style and safety. The narrow wave-piercing hulls with small forward bulbs cut through the waves with ease while the 26-feet of beam provided stability and a flat ride.

At one point the crew had to lie ahull while they retrieved a drone that had crashed into the sea. With 15-foot waves on the beam, the T 2000 took punch after punch without rolling or coming close to a capsize.

The T 2000 is designed for owners who want to explore the world’s remotest cruising areas from the high latitudes to the wilds of the Amazon jungle in all weathers.  Sea trials have demonstrated that the hull design will be able to average 30 knots even in rough seas.

Powered by twin 1,550-horsepower Mann V-12 diesel engines and France Helices SDS surface drives, the cat has a top end speed of 57 knots. The most economical speeds will be in the 30 to 40 knots range and with maximum fuel capacity it will be able to motor at that speed for 1,000 miles. At 10 knots it will have a 3,000-mile range.

Safehaven builds working boats that are short on amenities but when it comes to yachts like the T 2000 Voyager, they go all out with fine joinery, expensive fabrics, designer lighting and fixtures and thoroughly modern styling.

The demonstrator cat pictured here has two large cabins with en-suite heads and a crew cabin. But there are many ways to skin this cat, so owners have plenty of options. Hull number two is going to a couple in the middle east who specified a one-cabin plan that stretches to the hull’s full 26-feet of beam.

A truly unusual and innovative design, the new T 2000 Voyager will definitely appeal to adventurers who want to explore the world in a fast, robustly-built yacht with great seakeeping qualities. Read more.
