Tamas Hamor, the inspiration and driving force behind the Xquisite multihull brand, never does anything by halves. When he commits to a project, he’s in 110% and the results have been truly impressive. The success of his unique Xquisite sailing cats is a testimony to his tenacity and inventiveness.
So, it is no surprise to see the launch of the new Solar Sixty Power Cat that recently went into production. Hull number one should be in the water in 2025.
The solar designation for the boat comes from the builder’s desire to make the boat as self-sufficient as possible without the need for a generator to run all house systems when not underway. In a boat as complex as this, the daily energy draw is substantial.
Thus, the huge solar array on the cockpit hardtop, plus the arrays on the bridge’s hard top and on the foredeck in front of the saloon feed a giant bank of lithium batteries that in turn run the whole boat. In a set up like this, you can expect the battery bank to give up to 24 hours of service without running he engines to recharge it.
For main propulsion, the standard power plants are Volvo IPS D8 700s that will give the boat top speeds above 20 knots. For a more eco-friendly system, a diesel-electric hybrid option provides twin Yanmar 440s and two 100kW E-Motion electric motors.
Xquisite has not published the anticipated fuel economy and performance numbers yet, but the hybrid system should end up being very efficient, particularly due to the size of the boat’s battery bank and solar arrays.
Hamor is a stickler for modern styling and detail. He offers several packages of veneers and fabrics, so you can really create an interior that is your own. Plus, he takes care of small things like having a dedicated custom drawer for often-needed hand tools in the salon, including the tools.
The salon is wide open and full of natural light. Aft, a large door opens to unite the salon with the cockpit. Up on the bridge, there are a dining table, wet bar, and ample lounging areas.
The master suite spans the salon’s full beam and will be a true home away from home. A nice touch is the way the double bed had been positioned to face forward through the large windows for a perfect view of what’s ahead.
Always entrepreneurs, Hamor and his wife Sara, now have a resort, marina and restaurant in the Bahamas that is an Xquisite destination for owners, charters and prospective new owners. In a way, Hamor really dos think of everything. Read more here.
