Boston Whaler 405 Conquest Express Cruiser

When you think of Boston Whaler, the Massachusetts-based builder of unsinkable powerboats, you may not be envisioning cruising boats. Instead, the builder is known for its sporty runabouts, center consoles, and robust sport fishing models.

But, they also build the Conquest line of hybrid or dual-purpose boats that combine comfortable living accommodations for cruising with Whaler’s fishing DNA. The result is a style of boats that are truly sporty and will make great platforms for family vacations.

The 405 Conquest is a good example of what this dual-purpose concept is all about.  Starting at the stern, the 41-footer is powered by four Mercury Verado 300-horseppower outboards that deliver truly impressive speeds.

But, these can be upgraded to 400 and 600-horsepower engines. With three 600s delivering a combined 1,800 horses, the 405 will literally fly. And, with 620 gallons of fuel in the tank, the boat will also have the range to get well offshore quickly on fishing trips or at cruising speeds venture far and wide along the coast when family cruising.

The 405’s cockpit is open and utilitarian yet is has a grill, a sink and two teak tables that can be mounted and where with folding chairs you can enjoy meals under the sun and stars. The salon is open at the aft end with the galley and serving counter to starboard and the small dinette to port.

Whaler has embraced the dual-console concept at the helm with the actual helm and instruments on one side and a co-pilot’s double seat and a second set of instruments across from it. The companion way to the cabin is in between.

Down below you’ll find a master cabin with a big double berth forward, plus mid-hull berths for three more. These share a large head with a shower.  For a family of four or a gang of fishing buddies, this arrangement will work just fine.

The 405 Conquest is a truly sporty express cruiser that will appeal to active owners, probably on the younger side, who want it all in one package and a boat that comes with Boston Whaler’s stellar reputation for design excellence and build quality.
