Sea Levels May Be Higher than Many Scientists Thought

Science, as we know, is a process of marching by rial, error, experiments and theories toward the truth. Along the way some data is kept and other discarded. That’s ust what has happened with the generally accepted level of oceans.

It turns out that sea levels around the world are in fact higher, and in some cases much higher, that the measurements and observations from satellite have indicated.

It turns out that the method of measuring the sea level’s relationship to the shoreline was not providing a cross-reference data set and was often under reporting the accrual levels.

And the differences are significant. In some cases sea levels are actually eight to 12 inches higher than existing ocean maps indicate. This in turn affects how scientists calculate the rate of sea level rise and ultimately where coastal flooding is and will be a problem.
