This week MJM Yachts, under the new ownership of Seolta Holdings since late 2023, took the bold step to reintroduce their entire line with new model names and a host of upgrades to the yacht finish of the boats, to the standard equipment list and to the owner’s option list.
MJM also announced that new boats ordered by July 31, 2025 can qualify for up to $200,000 in discounts. So, if you are in the market for a sport day boat or family cruiser, now is the time to pull the trigger.
The promotion MJM sent out emphasizes that their sport cruisers are “Crafted for life, Refined for 2026.” What this means is their embrace of the various ways people use their boats. There are days when you just want to take the family out for the afternoon to anchor and swim by a local sandbar and then speed home for dinner.
There are evenings when you want to have friends or clients aboard for entertaining and perhaps a harbor cruise. And, there are weekends and weeks when you and your spouse and family want to go cruising during a longer vacation. That’s what “Crafted for life” means.
While the hulls and decks, the power options and the general layouts remain the same, the boats all have new names that help to describe better each model’s configuration and thus special purpose.
The MJM3, which is their smaller open-bow day boat with a day cabin, is now the MJM38X, with the X signifying the day-boat layout.
The MJM 35 is now the MJM38R. The boat is still the smaller of the two cabin cruisers and that’s the R designation. The 38 also now comes in a sport fishing configuration with rod holders and a bait well and carries the label MJM 38RS, with the S standing for Sport.
The MJM 4, which is their larger day boat with a forward cockpit and a day cabin is now the MJM 47X and the MJM 42, which is the larger of the two cabin cruisers, is now the MJM47R. (The MJM 47R is pictured above with the outboard propulsion option.)
The boats are still built using the advanced C5 branded infusion and post cured method that creates hulls and decks that are light, stiff and durable. And the refined hull shapes still will rise quickly onto a plane at 12 knots or so and still provide one of the most stable and softest rides in this sport cruiser category.
The list of standard equipment for each boat varies but for 2026 you can expect a standard boat coming from the factory to have everything you will need for boat handling, stability, living aboard, seamanship and navigation.
And for 2026, new boat buyers will have a wider selection of fabrics and colors, more storage for gear, refined lighting accents and advanced steering control systems.
MJM has certainly evolved since it was founded by J/Boat impresario Bob Johnstone 22 years ago in order to create a stylish, fast, power cruiser that his wife Mary would enjoy. Thus the name: Mary Johnstone’s motorboat. For 2026, MJM is powering into a whole new world.
