New Marlow Avalon 65 Breaks the Mold Beautifully

When you first glimpse the new Marlow Avalon 65 from Marlow Yachts and owner David Marlow, you know the company and its owner have created an owner-operated cruising boat that is a entirely new look.

Gone is the stepped sheer line and the square windows in the salon, bridge and hull. Instead, we have a high sided hull with a straight sheer, a noticeable flare at the bow and a curvaceous cabin and bridge structure with a swept back look and cats eye windows. Plus the hull port are oval.

The whole look of the Avalon 65 has a retro feel and a kinship with with the purposeful lines of a sport fishing boat. Yet, still here are the lapstrake lines in the hull and the handsomely curved stern and vast swim platform.

A live aboard passagemaker, the 65 is powered by twin Mann 1200 V12s that will repoprtedly drive the  hull at over 30 knots. With 1,850 gallons of fuel in the tanks, an owner will be able to cruise far and wide in almost complete independence.

The one-level deck layout provides and indoor-outdoor living space in the cockpit and salon that is unified by opening the wide salon doors. But the space does not feel overly large. Instead, it has an intimacy that a couple or family will appreciate.

Several details are worth noting. The stern has a huge lifting garage door that opens up a space aft of the engine room for a beach house or a dinghy garage or a place to store water tows. Or, it could conceivably be used as a crew cabin.

The other detail that shows long experience is the inside stars to the flying bridge. This takes up more space in the salon that would an outside ladder or stair in the cockpit but it is certainly more secure and will keep you out of inclement weather moving to and from the raised bridge helm.

Below decks, the accommodations are as elegant as you would expect from a Marlow yacht. The master cabin amidships span’s the hull’s full 19 feet of beam and had a king-size bed. The VIP guest cabin is forward there is a double cabin between the two.

The new Marlow Avalon 65 has a fresh new look and a thoroughly modern style that may hint at the course David Marlow intends to steer going forward. She’s an absolute stunner.
