The future is aways just over the horizon and predicting what it will bring is an ancient and uncertain art. But, now and then the future decides to pay the present a visit and that is just what happens when California based Navier yachts appeared on the scene with their new N30 Pioneer Edition foiling motorboat.
Foils have been around for a while and there are many in the boat business who believe that one day we will all go boating in boats with foils. It just makes sense.
When you are up on foils, you fly above the waves with a steady and comfortable motion, even at 30 knots. Plus, foils are far more fuel efficient that in-the-water hulls so using electric propulsion becomes entirely possible and practical.
Navier has been working on and building foiling boats since 2022 and this year they have settled on the N 30 Pioneer Edition as their production model. A day boat with a forward cockpit, an enclosed helm and seating area and an aft cockpit, the all electric N30 will have a cruising speed of 20 knots and a range of 75 miles.
But, the Navier gang was at the recent Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show and let slip that they are offering a modified version with hybrid diesel-electric propulsion. Called the Quanta R. this a heavier boat but it will have a range at at 20 knots of 700 miles.
Of course, having the future today does not come cheap. Navier recently announced they are building a tricked-out version of the N30 with every gadget imaginable that will retail for a cool $875,000.
