Grand Banks 54 Makes Debut in Europe to Raves

The Grand Banks 54 was launched in 2021 in the U.S. and until late last year had not been tested by yachting journalists in the U.K. Although delayed, the pros who took their first look at the 54  came away with big smiles on their faces.

The 54 is now the smallest of the new next generation of the Grand Banks line. This venerable brand, which can be named the founder of the trawler cruising concept 50 years ago, has been completely reimagined in the last decade.

The company, now known as the GB Marine Group, is based in Malaysia and is a sister brand to Palm Beach Yachts and East Bay Yachts. Under the direction of CEO and chief designer Mark Richards, who is also a famed ocean racing skipper, all three brands have been seriously updated with modern performance hull designs and cutting-edge carbon and epoxy infused construction techniques.

The introduction of V-Warp hull designs and light-weight construction makes the 54 one of the quickest in her class and the ride as smooth as humanly possible.

The Grand Banks 54 may be one of the finest family cruisers on the market in a size that is manageable by most cruisers. It has two full size double cabins with en suite heads. Interestingly on a boat of this size, the galley is down, which leaves the saloon wide open and spacious.

It is available in either a coupe configuration or with the flybridge and both versions have a salty Downeast look. Our British cousins came away impressed.
