On Wednesday night, one woman was killed and three other were injured when a speedboat carrying the group crashed against Logan Airport Pier #4 in Boston Harbor, Massachusetts.

Elizabeth Dankert of Andover was rushed to Mass General Hospital with serious injuries. Dankert, 24, died early Thursday.

According to Boston officials, Dankert and two of her friends were spending the evening at Boston’s Seaport where they boarded the center consol outboard operated by a 40-year-old man.

At about 11:20 pm, the boat struck the pier throwing the four onboard out of the boat and onto the rocky shoreline. Dankert was mortally injured and three of her companions suffered less serious injuries.

The emergency response teams were soon on the scene but had a difficult time working on the slippery and rocky shore in darkness. They managed to get the whole crew on shore and raced Dankert to the hospital.

Dankert was a 2024 graduate of Union college in New York and was praised by school officials as being an exemplary student athlete whose contributions to university life were considerable.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of Lizzie Dankert,” the college said. “Lizzie was an exceptional student-athlete who had a tremendous impact during her four years at Union College. Her passing is a profound loss for our campus community. We offer our condolences to Lizzie’s family, classmates, teammates and all those who were lucky to know this terrific young woman.”

The incident is still under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police.
