Australian builder Maritimo Yachts introduced their new Maritimo S50 sedan at the country’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show at the end of May. The S50 joins the growing fleet of sedans made by the builder that includes three other models from 55 to 75 feet.
In the announcement, the builder noted that their sedan models have been steadily growing in popularity and the addition of a 50-footer provides a good entry point for owners who like the sedan look and don’t need a flybridge.
The new S50 incorporates some modern European styling such as the sleekly swept back windshield, the topsides detail and the angular hull glazing. But the boat carries all of Maritimo’s blue water cruising DNA and robust engineering and build quality.
Maritimo’s owner and founder, Bill Barry-Cotter AM, commented about the latest vessel to come from the famous stable, “The refinement and evolution of our design ethos really does make the new S50 ‘our most S boat ever.’ The sculpture of the cabin top, which is then reflected in the boot over the lazarette, along with the cantilevered co-pilot’s seat adjacent to the Skipper’s helm chair, along with the vast, and tall glass throughout the main deck to deliver incredible light all say one thing – Maritimo!”
The S50 is powered by twin Volvo D13s that rate at 800-horsepower each. As in all their boats, the S50 has straight shafts that provide the rugged simplicity and long range performance owners expect and need.
As Barry-Cotter noted, “This proven propulsion configuration remains a cornerstone of Maritimo’s design philosophy, offering superior handling and long-range cruising confidence.”
The layout below offers a two-cabin, two-head configuration. The master suite uses the hull’s full beam so it is as spacious as any cabin on a 50-footer. The guest cabin has twin berths and its own head and shower.
The living spaces in the salon, galley and cockpit offer great sea views and easy access to the water via the huge, lowering stern platform. The salon has the helm and co-pilot seat forward. Just aft, there is a big comfortable dinette with a coffee table that converts to a dining table.
As in most Maritimo designs, the U-shaped galley is aft where it is next to both the inside dinette and the cockpit’s outside settee and dining table. The cockpit is covered by a hard top and at the aft end there is a raised lazarette with a lifting lid. The space here is large enough for water and waste tanks, onboard systems and water toys.
The S50 is a dedicated long-range cruiser and will be equally at home making blue water passages or, with its limited air draft, exploring inland waters.
