Bering Yachts, the respected Turkish builder of motor yachts and expedition cruisers, launched the new B88 in 2024 and announced this spring that hulls two, three and four are in build.
The 88-foot size puts these broad-shouldered mini-ships under the 24-meter threshold which in Europe makes the boats owner-operated yachts instead of captained mega yachts. This designation greatly simplifies registration insurance and crew requirements
Yet, at 88 feet and with a cruising range of over 5,000 miles at 8.5 knots, the B88 is a true explorer yacht and has the interior volume of a boat 15 feet longer. She has accommodations for up to 8 guests plus crew quarter for up to five.
With a welded steel hull, fitted with a ship-like bow bulb, and an aluminum super structure, the result is a massive displace yacht that will have great manners in all types of weather and sea states. She displaces just under half a million pounds so she will have a very surefooted and soft ride.
With 26 feet of maximum beam, the 88 has room for multiple social areas, dining arrangements and sleeping quarters. Starting on the flybridge, there is a large dinette that will seat 10, a wet bar with four stools and a smaller seating area aft.
Down one flight you get to the upper deck with has a large open deck area aft with a jacuzzi and twin sofa. Inside, there is the upper lounge that will be the entertainment center. A day-head is also handy. The brains of the 88 are in the bridge which is spacious, fitted with tin helm chairs, a large bench lounge that will double as a sea berth when underway.
The main deck is simply vast with a salon that is home to another lounge and coffee table, a formal dining table with 10 chars and a full kitchen that is partially set off from the salon by a wet bar with stools and bulkheads to hide the appliances.
The forward end of the main deck has been designated the owner’s cabin with a king-size bed, a seating area and a head that stretches the hull’s full beam. The side views from this cabin will be dramatic due to the large hull glazing.
Finaly on the lower deck there are two VIP cabins and a double cabin, each with its own head. The crew quarters are in the bow and the team is supplied with its own galley and living space plus berths for four. The professional captain’s cabin in on the upper deck just aft of the bridge.
This is a big yacht built by one of the best builders in Europe. One can easily envision trips aboard her to the Arctic or even a journey through the Northwest Passage.
