The new 800 from the Italian builder Ferretti carries the company’s unmistakable DNA – that unique Italian blend of style and power. At 80 feet, the hull is of a size that carries its lines including the flybridge sweetly and without any jarring visual angles. The actual flybridge is almost invisible from off the boat.
Like this generation of Ferretti yacht, the 800 has been dedicated to outdoor living at its best. On the fore deck, the designers have included a spacious sunning area with wide sunbeds. Plus, there is a lounge and a dining table that will seat five or six.
Up top on the flybridge, a space Perretti is calling the “sundeck” you’ll find the upper helm, a wet bar with stools, a dinette that will seat eight and a wide-open deck aft for portable chaises or chairs. You could even hold a yoga class here or host a dance party.
The main deck has sliding doors between the cockpit and the salon that when open meld the areas into one large social area. As in many Italian homes, the center of family life is in the 800’s galley which is just aft of the lower helm seats. The main dining table has seats for up to 10 so long afternoon lunches or formal dinners are possible.
The cockpit is spacious and has another lounge with a table and folding chairs for al fresco meas. This space opens onto the after swim platform which is not overly large but well proportioned to the hull’s attractive lines.
Ferretti anticipates that owners of the 800 will have crew, so cabin space has been made available for up to three, say a captain, a cook and a steward(ess).
The family’s main sleeping cabins include the master suite that is amidships and uses the hull’;s full beam The VIP guest cabin is in the bow and the two double cabins are between the two, each with its own head and shower.
The 800 certainly has broad shoulders. The standard boat is powered by twin Man 1250 horsepower engines with straight shafts. These will produce a top end of 30 knots or so and a cruising speed of 24 knots. Plus, there is the option to upgrade to Man 1650s that will add four or five knots to the top end.
Ferretti is known for their subtle and elegant finish work inside and out. In the 800 they are offering their classic interior, which is old-world yacht style, or an owner can opt for the “modern” interior styling that has a somewhat Scandinavian aesthetic.
The new 800 is going to turn heads at this September’s Cannes Festival of Yachting and will certainly appeal to the Ferretti family of owners.
