The new SUMMIT 54, the flagship of a new brand from Kadey-Krogen, was just launched in Taiwan and performed just as planned in its initial sea trial. The 54 “performed flawlessly,” said Larry Polster, Kadey-Krogen’s vice president, “achieving her design parameters of a cruise speed of 23 knots and WOT speed of 26 knots.”
This performance was all the more remarkable because the boat had no fewer than 15 people on board for the sea trial. Polster also said the SUMMIT 54 had little bow rise, stayed level in turns, and remained true to its design by Michael Peters, the legendary Sarasota designer who has drawn hulls for 13 champion race boats and Hinckley, Chris-Craft, Rybovich, Cigarette, Magnum and Intrepid, among others. The SUMMIT 54 was built at the Asia Harbor Yacht Builders in Taiwan, which has built more than 600 full-displacement trawlers for Kadey-Krogen over the past 40 years. Kadey-Krogen created the SUMMIT line when some customers said they wanted a faster boat. “It all began by listening to prospective customers that loved the quality of a Kadey-Krogen yacht, but their lifestyles dictated a faster boat,” said Tom Button, the Kadey-Krogen president.
The new SUMMIT is a three-cabin, two-head cruiser with wrap-around windows on the helm deck and salon. It has a sun lounge, with a canopy on the foredeck, while the aft deck contains a U-shaped settee and a grilling station with a service window that opens to the aft galley in the salon.
The SUMMIT galley, modeled after those on Kadey-Krogens, is home-like in its size and utility. It is on the port side of the salon opposite a settee to starboard with a teak table. The helm station is on the starboard side with a two-person seat and a teak wheel. A door opens to the starboard side deck for easy access during docking. A U-shaped settee is opposite the helm to port with a handcrafted high-low table.
Below, on the accommodation deck, the master stateroom is full beam, amidships, with a queen berth, his and hers closets, a vanity, and a large en suite head and shower. The VIP cabin is forward, with its own private entrance to the shared second head. The third cabin is on the starboard side and can serve as a stateroom or an office. It has a full berth with a desk and a washer and dryer.
On the flybridge, there are two helm seats, a forward sun lounge, and a settee to port with a teak table. A hydraulic crane is on the boat deck aft.
