New Cold-Molded Vicem 67: A Blue-Water Cruiser

The latest Vicem, a 67, was scheduled to make its worldwide debut at the Palm Beach show, which has now been cancelled. The new boat now will be unveiled in the U.S. at a later time.  The new 25-knot, blue-water cruiser has all the timeless lines and old-world craftsmanship that have marked Vicems for the past 29 years. It also has the Turkish builder’s cold-molded mahogany construction that makes the yachts easy to customize for individual buyers, while adding strength to the hull.

The 67 is built for cruising anywhere in the world, and it has earned a CE Design Category A for its seaworthiness. “The 67 Cruiser is a new design that will accommodate the needs of our clients who may want to cruise the open ocean,” says Simon Unal, Vicem’s chief naval architect.

The boat is powered by twin 1,000-hp Volvos with conventional shafts. At its cruising speed of 16 knots it has a range of 800 nm. At a trawler speed of 8 knots, range goes up to 2,250 nm.

The planing hull has a hard chine, and it’s made of cold-molded mahogany using West System epoxy and sheathed with one ply of E-glass biaxial fabric with epoxy coating. The stringers are made of mahogany and hardwood, and the engine beds are cold-molded laminated mahogany.

The interior has Vicem’s signature elegant book-matched veneers. All the furniture is made in house, as is the three-part wood and glass sliding door that opens wide to unite the salon and the aft deck.

On the main deck, there’s a formal dining area to port; the galley on the starboard side can be open or closed off. Farther aft, the salon has facing settees on the port and starboard sides, with a table on a high-low pedestal. The lower helm is open to the social areas on the main deck; a door next to the helm opens to the side deck. The main deck also has a day head.

Aft, the cockpit is protected by the overhang from the flybridge. Steps on each side lead down to the wide swim platform, which can be lowered hydraulically into the water.

Below, the Vicem 67 has two master staterooms with king-sized beds and large heads and showers; one is forward and one is amidships. A third, guest stateroom, also with en suite head and shower, is on the starboard side; it has a double bed. Crew quarters for two are aft, with its own eat-in galley and head and shower.

Specs.: LOA: 70’9”; Beam: 18’1”; Draft: 5’8”; Disp.: 113,980 lbs.; Fuel: 2,110 gals.; Water: 300 gals.; Power: 2×1,000-hp Volvo D13.
