Lynx Yachts in The Netherlands just launched the first of its Crossover series, a 27M built for an experienced owner in California. The 89’ 9” displacement expedition yacht, powered by two 850-hp CATs, has a range of 1,800 nm at 12.5 knots.
The company says the Crossover designation means the yacht “embraces the qualities of a graceful superyacht and the versatility of a support vessel in one fully customizable expedition yacht that delivers more than meets the eye.” They say it’s a long-range SUV on the water.
The name of the new Crossover is Avontuur (Dutch for Adventure) and that says it all. The owner of the robust new Lynx is a sports enthusiast and it is designed to carry all the toys he wants to enjoy the water, including SUPs, surfboards, canoes, scuba equipment, RIBs and a variety of jet skis.
The main deck is an open area measuring 753 square feet, with more than a 23-foot beam, so there’s room to carry a lot of stuff. It offers easy access to both the beach club aft and the sundeck above the salon. There’s a 3.6-ton crane on the main deck, and a 1-ton crane on the upper deck.
The new Lynx has a steel hull with an aluminum superstructure. The exterior is by the Dutch studio Bernd Weel; the naval architect is Diana Yacht Design. Top speed is 14 knots.
The standard Crossover 27M has four staterooms, with two crew cabins aft. But the American owner built hull number one with three cabins (a master and two doubles), all with en suite heads, with the crew cabins forward.
The owner plans to cruise the Med this summer. The company will display the yacht at the Cannes show in September.
