Granocean Building Luxe 72 Power Cat

Granocean just started building a new luxurious 72 power catamaran in its yard outside Sydney, Australia, with the interior space and design of a good-sized condo in New York or London.

The company says it can customize the new 72 to suit an owner’s tastes. Hull number one is under construction for a European owner, and it has a sophisticated mint-green exterior color that’s bound to turn heads anywhere in the world. The interior, by Vripack in The Netherlands, has an elegant minimalist design, while the hull was designed by Howard Apollonio of Washington State and the structural engineering by Gurit in the U.K.

Granocean says the 72 is one of the most spacious power cats available on the world market, and it’s marked by its large (32’ 8”) beam, wide hulls and high tunnel clearance. It can sleep ten guests in five large cabins, all with en suite heads and showers, plus two crew in another cabin.  The interior is designed to look like a resort, with a palette of grays, whites and greens and lots of natural woods, stones and marble.

There’s lots of space inside and out for al fresco entertaining, with sun pads and lounges on the foredeck, the aft deck, and up top in the flybridge. On hull number one,  the flybridge is open; you can also order it enclosed, if you want a sky lounge effect.

Standard power comes from twin 425-hp Cummins diesels, with a cruising speed of 18 knots and a top speed of 30 knots. A 20.5 kW Kohler generator is standard.

Specs.: LOA: 72’; Beam: 32’8”; Draft: 4’2”; Disp.: 99,200 lbs.; Fuel: NA; Water: NA; Power: 2×425-hp Cummins diesels.
