The new Glacier 48 from the Latvian builder Glacier Yachts is an intriguing new design from the offices of Guido de Groot. This all-aluminum build has a purposeful, expedition-yacht look from the bow. But as your eyes sweep aft you pick out a lot of subtle and interesting details that show how versatile this design can be.
The 48 has a central saloon with open side decks running forward on both sides. These are contained by high bulwarks and there are sturdy handrails so you and your guests will feel secure moving forward to moor or anchor the boat or just to relax on the forward sunning platform.
The cabin has huge windows with the forward glazing angled aggressively forward which gives the yacht a racy aspect. The raised helm forward has good 360-degree visibility.
Aft, the is a large U-shaped dinette that will be the main social focus in pleasant weather. Inside the saloon you can either the galley up with a bench settee and table or the galley can be built-in farther forward which makes room for settees on both sides.
Two cabins are provided, the master space forward and then a smaller guest cabin fitted in under the saloon floor. These share a large head between them.
The 48 is powered by twin Volvo D8-IPS800s that combine to produce 1,400 horsepower. Glacier claims a top speed of 35 knots.
