That’s a mouthful of buzzwords – AI, augmented reality—but welcome to 2025 and the new age of smart machines that solve problems we didn’t even know we had.
The new LOOKOUT camera is just such an invention. It looks ahead with a high powered caera’s eye and runs that data through a computer equipped AI that also collects data from all of your nav insyruments.
The result is a screen filled with all the data your marine electrics can generate in a readable three-dimensional format. The software expads images of hazards, highlight buoys, tracks AIS signals from passing boats and ships, and much more.
The LOOKOUT Camera and black box/software system, was developed by a group in Boston comprised of AI specialists, video game developers, #D designers and systems engineers.
“We’re living in an era where AI, augmented reality, and spatial computing are transforming navigation and safety,” says David Rose, CEO of LOOKOUT. “Boating should benefit from the same innovation we see in automotive and aerospace. LOOKOUT integrates AI tech with intuitive, beautiful, and beneficial software design, providing clarity especially in challenging conditions like low light, fog, and crowded harbors.”
Overf the last generation we have seen electronic charting evolve rapidly and multifunction devices now are sophisticated integrated navigational tools. No doubt this has made life on the water from commercial and reacreational boats much safer.
With the introduction of the smart LOOKOUT camera, AI and software to generate 3D images, augmented reality will take navigation to a new level.
