This spring the German motorboat innovators at Fjord Yachts have introduced an outboard version of their two-cabin 490. With three 600-horsepower Mercurys on the stern, the Sport will have a top end speed over 40 knots.

Fjord was an early adopter of the modernistic Euro designs, with slab sies, straight sheers and efficient stepped hull configurations. Axopar and many others were part of this trend.

Ther 490 Sport is a walk-around design with a large sunbed forward, another large sun bed aft and hydraulic terraces on both sides of the cockpit that fold down to provide more deck space, The indoor-outdoor cockpit has a dinette that will seat six.

While boats like the 490 Sport are often used as day boats or party craft, the 490 is also a weekender with two comfortable double cabins and a large head with a separate shower. The forward cabin is open and has a centerline double berth and large glazing in the hull.

The after cabin is under the cockpit and has side by side twin beds that can be made up as a double berth. This too has large hull glazing that admits a lot of natural light and provide bedside vistas.

Fjord has more than 700 dealers around the world and a reputation for high quality design, advanced construction techniques and the ability to build a boat with many different configurations per an owner’s needs.

If you are looking for an express sport boat that can double as a fun weekender, the Fjord 490 Sport has a lot to offer.
