You can’t say that Pierpaolo Lazzarini, the head of his own design studio in Rome, doesn’t think outside the box. Now he’s come up with an 82-feet-long, crab-inspired luxury power catamaran that runs on land and in the water. Lazzarini calls the new craft Pagurus, or a Crabmaran. It has a total of six different diesel engines, plus solar power, and it costs just $29.4 million. And it has a garage that can be lowered into the water (or the ground) that can hold a tender or a Tesla Cybertruck. Viewed from the front or the rear, the Pagurus looks…

Lyman-Morse is building a new Hood 35, named the Hood 35 LM Express Cruiser, and it’s bound to be an instant classic, with simple, elegant, Down East lines and contemporary 38-knot performance from twin 440-hp Yanmar diesels paired with Hamilton waterjets for sporty maneuvering and skinny-water exploring. The 35 is the second collaboration between Lyman-Morse, in Thomaston, Maine, and C.W. Hood, in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Just this fall the companies launched the first C.W. Alva Yachts, the new German builder, just announced that its first solar/electric Ocean Eco 60 Explorer catamaran will be used year-round for cruising in Norway. Alva also is building a 90-foot solar-electric cat. The 60, with a climate-controlled, fully enclosed flybridge, is designed for all-year cruising. The cat has an innovative design; the coachroof extends down to the raised bow to make space for solar panels. They can generate 20kW or 40kW, and work with a 300kWh lithium battery and two 230kW electric motors. Under solar/electric power alone, the Alva 60 can cruise for 110 nm at 7 knots, or…
Arcadia Yachts just launched its second Sherpa XL, a creative cruiser with lots of light-filled spaces on all three decks. The Italian builder worked with Hot Lab, the Milan-based design studio, to create a new look for the new 79-foot yacht. Ugo Pellegrino, the sole director of Arcadia, says the new Sherpa “is perfect not just for owners who want to use it for day cruising with all the guests they desire, but also for people who want to experience a long cruise with very high levels of service, embracing the ‘slow yachting’ philosophy that Arcadia itself introduced ten years…
Here’s a new idea from Cetera Yachts in Italy: A new 60-footer with all three staterooms on the main deck, giving them panoramic views and getting them away from the machinery spaces and waves that slap against the hull. The galley and major indoor social spaces that are usually there, in a main deck salon, have been moved to the upper deck, while the engines and everything that makes the boat work are on the lower deck, along with a two-person crew quarter. Cetera says the new 60, designed by Francesco Guida, is a “multispaces yacht,” and that it has…
Vicem Yachts just announced that they are building a new 50 IPS Classic, based on the success of the 46 that was introduced in 2017. The Turkish builder plans to have the new 50 in the U.S. by this spring. The new 50, like the 46, will be laid up with infused-fiberglass composite to reduce build time. Vicem has earned a world-wide reputation for building cold-molded mahogany boats, up to 92 feet. The 50 clearly fits in to Vicem’s Classic series, with its Down East looks, low profile, long sheerline and gentle tumblehome. When Vicem started the Classic series in…

The new Formula is designed by John Adams, who’s been working with Formula for many years. Like all of his boats, the new 50-footer has a highly polished painted hull, and owners can choose…

Beneteau is working on a new Gran Turismo 41 express cruiser, an upgrade of the Gran Turismo 40 that it introduced in 2016. The 40 was not only popular, but it also was named European Powerboat of the Year. The new 41 is more powerful than the 40, and is designed with more entertaining and lounging spaces. It has two cabins and one head below; there also is a lower lounge and a full galley there. But the 41 also will have an upper, outdoor galley on the port side of the cockpit, with a sink, fridge, electric grill and…
Princess Yachts has launched its new V78, a contemporary, light-filled family express cruiser that’s designed for an owner-operator and reaches speeds in the mid-30-knot range powered by twin 1,900-hp MAN diesels. The flagship of Princess’ V series of yachts, the new 78 has four staterooms, all with en suite heads, on its lower accommodations deck. The full-beam, midships master is reached by a private staircase from the salon. The salon is filled with natural light all around. The side windows are almost four feet high, and the electric sun roof opens far enough to expose about half the main deck.…
