How’s this for a different kind of charter – Kingfisher, a recently restored classic 50-foot Huckins Corinthian built in 1959? Available in the Northeast this summer, Kingfisher certainly qualifies as a class act, whether you want it for a wedding, a cocktail cruise, a long weekend or more. Think about arriving in Nantucket, Newport, or Sag Harbor with your friends or family; Kingfisher would certainly cause heads to turn. The yacht has two cabins, both with heads and showers, plus a protected salon, a large shaded flybridge, a roomy salon with settee and large side windows, a raised foredeck with…

If you’ve never taken a charter before, the idea can be a bit intimidating. No matter where you go, you’re investing a good amount of time, and money, hoping for the best. A good charter can be one of life’s best treasures; a bad one, and they don’t happen often, but still…can be awful. Here’s some great advice from charter professionals about how to tilt the odds in your favor. Even if you’ve chartered before, these tips will help you make sure that the next one is also memorable. We all know that the goal of a charter vacation is to relax and have fun, and that generally the goal of the captain and crew is to keep everybody safe and happy. But what happens when the guests make outrageous requests? How outrageous? Well, try this top ten list, including calls for a seaplane to deliver more champagne when the onboard stock is running low, or the guest who demanded that the breakfast cucumbers be cut into exactly 10-millimetre cubes. And those are just for starters. Read the list: http://www.boatinternational.com/charter/luxury-yacht-charter-advice/the-most-outrageous-charter-guest-requests–30013/frame-2

You shouldn’t need an excuse to go to Bermuda (it’s one of the world’s greatest spots), but if you do, start thinking about the America’s Cup, one of the world’s most enduring sports contests. Don’t take too long to think about it: The first Louis Vuitton qualifying race starts May 26. One of the best ways to see all the action, of course, is by chartering your own yacht, power or sail. We have a story and video listing seven reasons why you should do that, below. And then below that we have another story telling all about Bermuda itself.…

It may be hard to transfer your attention from the big screen to the beautiful blue waters beckoning you from beyond the bow of your charter boat, but hey, you’ve to charter somewhere, so why not go to a drop-dead gorgeous spot you’ve already seen in the movies? Here’s a good look at four such spots: Croatia, from Game of Thrones; Thailand, from James Bond: The Man with the Golden Gun; and both St. Lucia and Puerto Rico from Pirates of the Caribbean. There are vacations and there are vacations, but where else in the world is as appealing and as glamorous as the Cote d’Azur, the 60-mile stretch of absolutely gorgeous blue water from Monaco to St. Tropez? Think Princess Grace, Brigitte Bardot, Cary Grant and James Bond, not to mention F. Scott Fitzgerald. Now you can get there yourself on a cruise or week-long charter from MarineMax Yachts. Here’s a sample itinerary to whet your appetite: http://www.marinemaxyachts.com/private-yacht-charters/cote-dazur

By all accounts, the Amalfi Coast of Italy, stretching along the southern coast of the Sorrentine Peninsula south of Naples, is one of the most beautiful spots in the world. Sheer cliffs seem to tumble down to the azure-blue waters, while small towns are scattered along the coastline, filled with red-tile-roofed homes and inviting small hotels with outdoor patios opening up to incredible vistas. A tourist mecca in the season, over the years the Amalfi Coast has been celebrated in writing by John Steinbeck, in film by Federico Fellini, and in music by, well, Beyoncé and Jay-Z. The only problem…

http://aquilaboats.comAquila is launching a new 36-foot power catamaran that makes cruising or chartering easy, comfortable and fast. Indeed, the new Aquila 36 has two staterooms and two heads and is powered by twin 250-hp Mercury Verado four-stroke outboards that top out at 27 knots. If that’s not fast enough, twin 300-hp or even twin 350-hp Verados are options. With the standard 250s, the new cat cruises at 21 knots and delivers a 282-nm range. Performance is one thing. Cruising comfort is another. With its 14’7” beam, the Aquila 36 offers room to spare, inside and out. The staterooms in each…

A few years ago I drove a new Fjord 40 from Key West up to Miami, and it simply was one of the best days I’ve ever had on the water. The ultra-modern design of the boat is one thing; a steady 30-knot cruise was another, but the almost unanimous head-turning by other boaters is rarely experienced. People stopped and stared when we left Key West and we even drew a small crowd when we put in to Little Palm Island, one of the most exclusive resorts on the East Coast, for a photo shoot. More people lined the dock…

If you’re looking for a different kind of cruising or charter destination, try the Dalmatian coast of Croatia in the Adriatic. It has an endorsement from NASA astronauts, no less, who say the waters there are the bluest in the entire world, as seen from outer space. As seen closer up, the coast has more than 1,000 islands with beautiful golden beaches, small harbors, some modern marinas, medieval towns with red-tile roofs and narrow winding streets, wonderful restaurants and just a different way of life – dating back to the days of the Greeks, Romans and Byzantines. The historic town…
