New, Striking-Looking Invictus GT 370 To Debut at Miami Show

Invictus Yacht from Italy is making its debut in the U.S. with its new, striking-looking GT 370 at the Miami boat show, starting February 13. Powered by twin 370-hp MerCruiser sterndrives, the Invictus GT 370 has a cruising speed of 26 knots, and a top speed of 43 knots. With its factory in Borgia, Invictus first appeared on the European market in 2016. Since then, the company has grown rapidly, largely because of its attention to detail, individual styling, and semi-custom approach to each boat. The line now runs from 28 to 37 feet, and they all offer the company’s…

Report from Miami: More Power, More Smart Boats

The big Miami shows just opened with a new emphasis on high-tech, artificial intelligence and power and more power. Mercury introduced a brand new 400-hp outboard, it’s most powerful yet for recreational use, while Volvo teamed up with Tiara to launch a new outboard version of its revolutionary IPS pod drives for inboards (see the picture at top), and Raymarine showed off its artificial intelligence assisted docking system that I just tested – and I’m still smiling. To celebrate Mercury’s 80th anniversary, Mercury President John Pfeifer unveiled the new 400-hp Verado, which he said was an upgrade from the 350-hp Verado,…

Miami Shows Open Soon: Here Are Some New Boats, and New Trends, To See There

With the huge Miami boat shows rapidly approaching, they start on Feb. 14, I’ve put three brand-new cruising boats, and two brand-new artificial intelligence docking systems, at the top of my must-see list. The three boats are all quite different from each other, but each one in its own way illustrates particular trends that spill over to many of the other 2,000 boats on display in Miami. (There are actually two separate shows going on at the same time in Miami. One is on Virginia Key, and the other has one location downtown between the MacArthur Causeway and the Venetian…

With its panoramic side windows, large sunroof and fully opening glass door aft, the new Jeanneau is a light-filled, French-styled coastal cruising boat that makes living on board easy underway or at anchor. You can step aboard from a large teak swim platform and enter the cockpit via a stainless steel gate on the starboard side of the transom. The cockpit is built for lounging, with a large L-shaped…

Arrive in Style: Take a Chopper and a Speedboat to the Miami Show

Here’s a new, and unbeatably cool, way to get to the Miami boat show on Virginia Key next month. While most of us are waiting for Uber cars, shuttle buses or water taxis, you fly in on your helicopter, which delivers you to a floating landing pad just off the Miami Marine Stadium, where a new HCB speedboat picks you up and takes you to the show. All this was conceived by ILandMiami, a startup that designs, manufacturers and operates the Marine Utility Vessel, a floating landing site that can hold a helicopter up to 7,000 pounds with six passengers.…

Report from Miami: “Bigger is Better,” More Outboards Than Ever, and “A Very Robust Market” By Peter A. Janssen Whatever else was going on (and a lot was going on), the people at Ranger Tugs and Cutwater Boats hit a home run at the Miami International Boat Show on Virginia Key. They had a bigger display than ever before, with three models from each brand, and there were people than ever before. “It was a great show for both brands,” said Sam Bisset, the communications director for Ranger and Cutwater, “and there were certainly buyers in the crowds.” Based in…

Miami Show Opens Big: More Boats, More People, More Enthusiasm By Peter A. Janssen The Miami International Boat Show got underway under beautiful blue skies with more people, more boats, more outboards, more hybrids, more cats and more enthusiasm that I’ve seen in a long time. The mood on the docks, and in the lines waiting for water taxis and shuttle buses to and from the show at Virginia Key, was distinctly upbeat. Power boating has been coming back lately. The Lauderdale show in November was the best in years, the New York show last month was so good that…

You Can See More Cruising Boats Than Ever at the Miami Shows Next Week. Here Are Our Reviews of 38 of Them

It would be hard to find a larger or more impressive display of new cruising boats anywhere in the world than what you can see in Miami next week. At the ever-larger Miami International Boat Show on Virginia Key, you’ll find more than 1,400 boats (including many more in the 40- to 80-foot range), while at the Miami Yacht Show up on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach, there are 500 more. (And that’s not counting the superyacht show on Watson Island, but that’s by invitation only.) All the shows start next Thursday, Feb. 15, and run through Monday Feb. 19.…
