Nordic Tugs To Show Latest 40 Pilothouse

Nordic Tugs just launched its latest 40 pilothouse cruiser, and it will be on display at the show in Anacortes, Washington, this weekend. With its nostalgic looks, full keel and solid build, the Nordic Tug is a serious pilothouse cruiser. It can be handled easily by a couple, but it also can sleep six people on a cruise and hold many, many more for onboard entertaining. Powered by a single 370-hp Volvo diesel, it tops out at more than 17 knots, and has a range of about 1,000 nm at 8 knots. The first Nordic Tug, a 26, was introduced…

New Ocean Sport 30 with Outboard Power

The new outboard-powered Ocean Sport 30, from the makers of Nordic Tugs, is a no-frills, ocean-going boat with a turn of speed and long legs with some hard-to-categorize appeal. The Ocean Sport 30 was originally launched with sterndrives until Nordic beefed up the transom and introduced it with twin 350-hp Mercury Verado outboards. It also was meant as an offshore fishing machine. To my mind, at least, it now could serve just as well as an adventure boat or even a couple’s cruising boat. It has a standard V-berth forward to sleep two adults, a convertible dinette opposite the  helm…

Fall Boat Show Special: New Boats 35 Feet and Under

Here’s a look at just some of the new cruising boats, 35 feet and under, that, in normal times, you’d probably see at the fall boat shows this year: RANGER TUGS R-27 It would be hard to find a more user-friendly pocket cruiser than the Ranger Tugs R-27. Its two-cabin, one-head layout is made for cruising with a small family or a few friends; its light-filled salon makes living enjoyable, and its 300-hp Yamaha outboard delivers a 42-mph top speed that gets you where you want to go in a hurry. Ranger Tugs are made by Fluid Motion, in Kent,…

New Nordic Tugs 34: A Semi-Displacement Couple’s Cruiser with Lots of Character

A couple’s boat with lots of character, the Nordic Tugs 34 is designed for the Great Loop, the Inside Passage or a summer excursion to the rocky shores and hidden coves of Down East Maine. A semi-displacement trawler, the Nordic Tugs 34 is a salty, comfortable, single-diesel cruiser that’s easy to manage and maintain, while retaining the company’s iconic tugboat lines, including the faux smokestack. The 34 is an outgrowth of the popular Nordic Tugs 32, which the company first built in 1985. (Nordic Tugs started with a 26 that was introduced at the Seattle boat show in 1980, and…

Slowboat Flotilla to Alaska: Safety – and Fun – in Company The peak cruising season in the Pacific Northwest is just starting, but the Slowboat flotilla has already left Roche Harbor in the San Juans, heading up the Inside Passage to Sitka, Alaska. The flotilla has six boats this year, a Nordhavn 50, West Coast 46, Nordic Tug 42, two Nordic Tug 37s, and a Nordic Tug 34. Which Is Better: 34′ Nordic Tug or 27′ Airstream? An Owner’s Report

Which vehicle has more living space: A 2013 Nordic Tug 34 or a 2010 Airstream 27-foot RV? Not many of us have a chance to compare the two. But Laura Domela, a Portland, Oregon, photographer, and her husband, Kevin Morris, editor of “Electronic Engineering Journal,” have spent hundreds of nights on both. Each one, as it turns out, has its own advantages – and disadvantages. Here’s her report: http://slowboat.com/2017/03/interior-living-space-compared-27-airstream-vs-34-nordic-tug/

Nordic Tugs Head Down the Waterway to the Keys

Here’s a group of cruisers who are living the dream. So far, ten Nordic Tug owners have joined Ben Wilde’s “ICW Nordic Tugfest,” cruising down the Waterway together, heading for Marathon in the Florida Keys. Wilde, who runs Wilde Yacht Sales, the largest Nordic Tugs dealer in the world, started out on his personal Nordic Tug 54, Nordic Lady, from his office in Essex, Connecticut. The cruise officially got underway from his other office in Rock Hall, Maryland, on the Chesapeake. The picture above is of the group leaving Spring Cove Marina on Solomons Island on the Chesapeake. The Nordic Tug…

Nordic Tugs 44: Iconic Salty Cruiser

There’s no mistaking a Nordic Tug. The iconic salty tugboat lines, even down to the faux smokestack, have identified the brand ever since the first one, a 26-footer, was introduced at the Seattle boat show in 1980. The new Nordic Tugs 44, which replaces the popular 42, has all the personality, performance and solid sea-keep abilities of its predecessors. Nordic Tugs are built in Burlington, Washington, for serious cruisers, people who will go up the Inside Passage to Alaska or from Maine to Miami and the Bahamas as a matter of course. The 44 has a two-stateroom, two head layout…

Nordic Tugs 40: Prize-Winning Cruiser

The new Nordic Tugs 40 just won the People’s Choice Award at the Newport International Boat Show. The award, voted on by people attending the show, said the boat has a “combination of comfort, luxury and performance, featuring direct access to the flybridge from the pilot house, a starboard-side boarding door in the cockpit, a large pilot house with seating for six, a spacious salon layout and a mid-stateroom boasting two large bunks with a lower double.” The Nordic Tugs 40 is an updated version of the popular Nordic Tugs 39, with some improvements from stem to stern to make…

Nordic Tug 26: A Classic Pocket Cruiser

When it was first introduced at the Seattle boat show in 1980, the Nordic Tug 26 was an instant hit; at an introductory price of $29,995 (including a refundable $1,000 deposit), the company sold 37 at the show and 54 by the end of the month. A single-diesel cruiser with a 36-hp Volvo and a faux smokestack, the Nordic Tug 26 had a lot of character. Some 200 have been sold since then, to owners who want to do the Great Loop, the Inside Passage or just the next cove on a Saturday afternoon. The 26 now is powered by…
