The creative, all-electric 20m Eegle trawler-like cruiser is being completed in a yard in the south of France. BYD, the Spanish naval architectural firm that drew the yacht, says that it is “designed to be the perfect coastal cruiser,” combining “the space and comfort of a beach apartment with the effortless mobility and seaworthiness of a highly capable motoryacht.”

The new Eegle is 65’ 6” long with a beam of 16’4” and it’s powered by four 150-kW motors to give it a top speed of 20 knots and a range of 80 nm.  An optional larger fuel tank and genset can increase the range to 1,000 nm at 7.5 knots.

The eco-friendly yacht has a 600kWh battery bank that’s fed by 320 square feet of solar panels on the hardtop; they generate 9kW to recharge the batteries.

Designed for an owner-operator, the 20m Eegle has four staterooms below. The owner’s stateroom is amidships and runs the full beam of the boat, and it has a full-size dressing room, a desk and a large head. The hull sides fold down to create an open-air terrace. The VIP stateroom is forward, and the other two staterooms are a bit aft.

The salon is filled with light from large windows all around, offering 360-degree views; the mullions are minimized so they don’t restrict the view. BYD has designed two color schemes for the salon.

In the black version, there are  no interior bulkheads or walls to interrupt the sightlines. A square galley makes room for a glass-and-oak dining table by the aft doors, which can be removed to fully open the salon to the aft deck. A central U-shaped sofa forms the center of the salon, where black satin lacquered panels and white marble complement the teak deck.

In the white version, the salon lounge is separated from galley by an elegant cabinet, and the two captain’s seats on the starboard side are concealed by a panel holding a large flat-screen TV and drawers for storage.

The first hull of the 20m Eegle will be launched soon. Read more:
