New North Pacific 450 Pilothouse Cruiser

North Pacific has launched its new 450 Pilothouse, a two-stateroom, two-head serious cruiser. With the standard single 335-hp Cummins, the new 450 Pilothouse cruises at about 9 knots and tops out at 14 knots. A single 480-hp Cummins is an upgrade, and it you want twins, then North Pacific will be happy to oblige you. North Pacific says the new 450, with a more modern interior and exterior, builds on the success of its 43, the company’s first, and most popular, model. The interior displays satin-finished teak, and the drawers are all dove-tailed. The hull is laid up with solid…

North Pacific Unveils New 53 Euro Pilothouse

North Pacific Yachts just introduced its new 53 Euro Pilothouse at the Boats Afloat show in Seattle. It’s an updated version of a low-maintenance, modern, long-range cruiser built for the waters of the Pacific Northwest or just about anywhere else. Trevor Brice, the president of North Pacific Yachts, wrote me that the 53 (pictured above) is the same as the builder’s 49 Euro Pilothouse except that the cockpit was extended. North Pacific first introduced a 49 Pilothouse model in 2013, and then launched a more modern version, the 49 Euro Pilothouse, in early 2021 (pictured below). The Euro version has…

North Pacific Making New 49 Euro Pilothouse Cruiser

North Pacific Yachts is building a new, contemporary, Euro-styled 49-foot pilothouse trawler that it expects to launch this fall. It has more windows, more curves, and more interior volume than the company’s traditional 49 pilothouse model. “With the Euro, we are excited to offer an option that’s fresh and modern, with the highest level of quality that you’d expect on the best traditional trawler,” said Trevor Brice, the company’s president. The 49 Euro will come with many engine options, offering speeds up to 21 knots. The original 49, which North Pacific still builds, has a single 355-hp Cummins; it cruises…

Fall Boat Show Special: Boats 36 to 50 Feet

Here’s a look at just some of the new cruising boats, 36 to 50 feet, that, in normal times, you’d probably see at the fall boat shows this year: BRABUS AXOPAR 37 If you thought the original Axopar 37 was cool, take a look at the new version, the BRABUS Shadow 900, and it’s a collaboration between BRABUS, a German company that transforms luxury cars (think Mercedes-AMG) into even higher-end luxury performance vehicles, and Axopar, the innovative builder from Finland. For the Shadow 900, BRABUS starts with the platform for the Axopar 37 and then customizes it. “BRABUS Marine products…

New North Pacific 49 Pilothouse: A Sturdy Coastal Cruiser

The North Pacific 49 Pilothouse is a sturdy, no-nonsense, long-range coastal trawler that’s easy for an owner-operator to run – and to maintain. Indeed, there’s no exterior teak at all, although the boat has a rich teak interior, down to the teak-and-holly sole. The standard power is a single 355-hp Cummins diesel, which produces cruising speeds in the 7- to 10-knot range. Other engines are available, including twins or get-home engines. With a single, the boat has a hefty skeg to protect the running gear. The large rudder and bow thruster make dockside maneuvering easy, and a stern thruster is…

North Pacific 49 Pilothouse: A Comfortable Coastal Cruiser

For a user-friendly boat that’s easy on the outside and elegant on the inside, take a look at the North Pacific 49 Pilothouse. There’s no wood on the outside, you just hose it down, while the inside has rich teak throughout, a large pilothouse for easy navigation, and an unusual full-beam salon for comfortable living. With a semi-displacement hull, the North Pacific 49 is a rugged, solid trawler meant for safe coastal cruising or living aboard. The pilothouse on the 49 is a true pilothouse, with twin adjustable helm chairs, a settee that converts to a berth, good visibility and…
