The Ten Most Famous Sailors’ Bars in the World. Do You Agree?

These are billed as the Ten Most Famous Sailors’ Bars in the World, but it really doesn’t matter how you get there; the drinks and atmosphere are the same whether you arrive by sail or by power. But take a look at this list, created by Sail Universe, and see if you’ve been to any of them, or if you have your own favorites. The pictures alone will make your mouth water.

  1. Peter’s Café Sport, Horta, Azores. (Historic, dating to 1859. Don’t know how I missed this when I was there with the Nordhavn Atlantic Rally.)
  2. Foxy’s Tamarind Bar, Jost Van Dyke, BVI. Pictured above. (Great beach and great drinks; a must and a personal favorite.)
  3. Le Select, St. Bart’s. (For great cheeseburgers; a locals’ hangout.)
  4. IYAC, Newport, Rhode Island. (Great location, parties, special events.)
  5. Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, Hamilton, Bermuda. (Historic and not stuffy.)
  6. Sam’s Anchor Café, Tiburon, California. (With a water-level view across the bay to San Francisco; another personal favorite for more years than I want to remember.)
  7. Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. (For a taste of the British Empire; it’s been there for 170 years.)
  8. Boatyard Bar and Grill, Annapolis, Maryland. (A must when cruising the Chesapeake or visiting the Annapolis boat shows.)
  9. Harbor Pub, Honolulu. (Local favorite with a great view of Honolulu Marina.)
  10. Pink Pony, Mackinac Island, Michigan. (Private deck and excellent entertainment.)

Don’t know about you, but I’ve only been to five of these, so I clearly have work to do. For more:
