Volvo Penta is certainly working hard to make our lives easier on board. Now, Volvo has developed Easy Connect, a platform that uses a Bluetooth interface with the boat’s engines and sensors to display all that information on your smart phone or tablet. The free Easy Connect app gives instant live access while you’re on board; you can see the engine and vessel data with a swipe of your fingers. At home, you can review the information you’ve saved. Volvo will be showcasing Easy Connect on their boats at the Miami Boat Show.
Easy Connect starts with a simple and intuitive dashboard-type layout. From there, you can customize it to fit your needs. There’s a Captain view, for when you on board, and a Home view for when you’re not connected to the boat.
In the Captain view, you can see the route, engine speed, oil temperature, fuel levels, battery status, engine hours, alarms and more. In the Home view, you’ll see the amount of fuel left, engine hours, your latest trip and a list of all your previous trips, so you can revisit your favorites. It also has a map function so you can see where the boat was when you were last connected.
And you can use the app’s map function to share trips on social media. “Just as people show friends and family memories of their favorite holidays and experiences on land, they can now share details of the best journeys they’ve had at sea,” says Marcus Pettersson, project manager at Volvo Penta. “It adds another level of enjoyment and interaction to leisure boating.”
