ACR Electronics has just launched new ResQLink personal locator beacons that are small, lightweight and pack more punch to help you in case of an emergency. The new PLBs have a digital display option, and they incorporate first-hand feedback from survivors who have had to activate their PLBs in real life.

The new ResQLink PLBs are small enough that you can carry them in a pocket or attach them to a life jacket. They have built-in buoyancy and an operating life of more than 24 hours. They also have global coverage, operating on three satellite systems so their signals can be detected and transmitted almost instantaneously. Indeed, ACR says that a signal from one of the new PLBs will be located within 328 feet 95 percent of the time within five minutes.

The option of optical display technology is new and it shows all the beacon’s operational activities, including GPS coordinates, transmission bursts, and battery  power. The PLBs also include a new infra-red strobe light, in addition to the previous ultra-bright strobe light, to assist rescue crews using night vision goggles; this came at the recommendation of some of the survivors.

In the new ResQLinks, the protected activation button is located away from the test button. They also have several mounting options, including a belt clip, and an easy-to-release antenna enclosure.

They come with a five-year battery life, and they do not require a subscription of any kind. For more:
