Sabre Getting Ready To Launch New 58 Salon Express in October, Celebrate 50th Anniversary All Year

There’s lots going on this summer at Sabre Yachts. The Down East builder just put the deck on the hull of its new 58 Salon Express in its factory in Raymond, Maine, and it’s also busy planning its 50th anniversary, with a big Sabre and Back Cove rendezvous next June in Portland; there will be celebrations throughout the year.

The new Sabre 58 is scheduled to be launched for sea trials in October in Portland. Sabre already has several orders for the boat and they want to make sure it’s ready for a public debut at the Miami show in February, followed by the Palm Beach show in March. The boat replaces the popular Sabre 54; the company built more than 130 54s before it retired the model in 2017. The Sabre lineup now stretches from 38 to 66 feet.

With its clean, classic lines, its low profile and its long sheer, the new Sabre 58 remains true to the company’s made-in-Maine heritage. A safe, comfortable cruiser, the 58 will be powered by twin 725-hp Volvo Penta IPS950 pod drives, with a joystick control at the helm for easy docking and low-speed maneuvering. The boat has a resin-infused hull with a 15-degree deadrise at the transom, so it should be at ease cutting through waves underway while providing stability at slow speeds and on the hook.

With three staterooms, all with en suite heads, the 58 can serve as a family cruiser (the Bahamas, anyone, or the Great Loop?), or as a comfortable weekender or elegant day boat. Its air draft of 17’ 9”, including the mast, will allow it to slide under lots of bridges in Florida, as well as on the Loop.

The cockpit has a fixed table for entertaining, with seating aft and a retractable ShureShade overhead. A large sliding glass door opens to the galley, which is aft on the port side. It’s fully equipped for cruising, with a U-shaped counter, cooktop, sink, storage and dishwasher. A large counter and storage are to starboard. Curved corner windows aft and large side windows let in lots of natural light.

Up one step, the salon has a large U-shaped settee with a high-low table to port and a three-person bench settee to starboard. Forward, the helm deck has a two-person seat to port, and two Stidd helm seats to starboard. A door next to the helm opens to the starboard side deck for quick access for docking and line handling. An electrically-operated sunroof overhead can be opened for extra ventilation or even more light. The boat is equipped with the state-of-the-art fully digital switching system from CZone.

On the accommodation deck below, the full-beam, midships master comes with a walk-around king berth and a large en suite head. Designer accents include stainless steel towel bars and a wood-trimmed mirror over the sink. Owners have their choice of tile for the sole.

The VIP cabin is in the bow with a queen bed and the guest stateroom is a bit aft on the starboard side with twin berths. All the staterooms have flat-screen TVs.

The new 58 is expected to cruise at about 27 knots and top out at 31 knots. Stay tuned.
