Here’s a new boat that probably will turn heads on the water, but it certainly will get a lot of attention on land – the new, amphibious Iguana Commuter. Built in Caen, France, the new Iguana will make its U.S. debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, starting Oct. 30. You can see it at the Super Yacht area of the show at Pier 66.

With its deep-V hull and twin 200-hp Yamaha outboards, the Iguana tops out at 41 knots on the water. On land, its 15kWh electric engine and caterpillar tracks push it to a cruising speed of 4 mph. (See the video below.)

On the Iguana Commuter, you don’t have to worry about transferring to your dink or a launch to come ashore. All you do is push a button and deploy the landing tracks and trim up the outboards. Once you’re on the beach, you control the tracks with a joystick at the helm. When it’s time to get off, push another button and a large boarding ladder deploys from the transom.

On the water, the tracks fold into recesses in the hull above the waterline in about ten seconds. They are made of carbon fiber and marine-grade aluminum with stainless-steel components for strength and durability.

The new Iguana offers a smooth ride, and has a unique convertible top to keep passengers dry. At the touch of a button, the roof transforms from a sunshade to a sealed, waterproof helm.

For comfort, it has a cabin with a small day bed, a head and lots of storage. You can lock up your valuables when you land at your favorite beachside restaurant.

As standard equipment, the Iguana comes with LED lights in the cabin, power steering, a fresh-water shower and a forward-facing camera on the landing gear. The company is promoting it as a yacht tender, a day cruiser, or an all-around boat for someone with a waterfront home.
