New, Open, Bavaria SR41: Built for Fun

The Bavaria SR41, just introduced at the Düsseldorf show in January, is another example of the low-profile, fairly-open weekend cruisers designed for maximum enjoyment on the water.

The SR41, with two large cabins and two heads below, also has some creative touches. The cockpit, for example, does triple duty in the sociability department. In one configuration, it has as an aft-facing dinette, with a U-shaped settee just above the teak swim platform. You can rearrange this area to serve as a comfortable sun lounge, large enough for several adults. And you can rearrange it again by flipping a backrest and changing some cushions so it serves as a traditional forward-facing social area, including a teak table on a removable stainless pedestal.

Off on the starboard side, the cockpit also has a wet bar with a sink and fridge. Another L-shaped seating area is to port.

There is no door separating the cockpit from the salon; it’s all one open, social area. Forward, to starboard, the helm has a two-person seat; another seat and L-shaped lounge are to port. The large curved windshield and teardrop-shaped side windows let in a lot of light. Visibility is excellent in all directions. The sunroof lets in even more light when it’s open.

Down five steps, the accommodation deck also has lots of light, coming in from windows built into the black stripe running along the side of the hull. The full-beam master stateroom is amidships, with the walkaround bed set athwartships from the starboard side. A lounge is to port, next to the en suite head and separate shower.

At the foot of the steps, the galley is off to port, with an L-shaped counter. The U-shaped dinette, and its table, are to starboard. Forward to starboard is the day head, which is also the head for the VIP stateroom in the bow.

The Bavaria’s air draft of just 11’ 8” means it can slide under most bridges in Florida or the Great Loop. Power options include MerCruiser gas engines or Volvo diesels.

Specs.: LOA: 43’6”; Beam: 13’1”; Draft: 3’5”; Disp.: 19,841 lbs.; Fuel: 198 gals.; Water: 66 gals.; Power: 2/355-hp MerCruiser gas, or 2/380-hp Volvo diesels.
