New Azimut Verve 47: Italian Style, Outboard Performance

Azimut just held the worldwide premiere of its new sleek, Italian-styled Verve 47 at the Miami Yacht Show in February. The new weekend cruiser turned heads throughout the show, but it really drew praise for its performance on the water, where its four 450-hp Mercury Racing outboards pushed it to a 50-knot top speed.

The Verve 47, with a stepped hull by Michael Peters, the Sarasota designer who specializes in fast boats, represents a doubling-down on outboards by Azimut. It introduced its first outboard boat, a Verve 40, almost four years ago.

The new 47, with an interior by Francesco Struglia, is designed as a fast weekend cruiser. It has two cabins, a galley and a head below, to make overnighting – or longer – easy and comfortable.

But it’s up top where the Verve shines. With its low profile and massive raked windshield, the Verve 47 looks like it’s going fast when it’s standing still. The four massive outboards aft simply add more beef and horsepower to that impression.

You can walk on the boat from a gate on the port side of the transom. The cockpit has a large L-shaped lounge aft and up the starboard side. The bulwark on the port side folds out, per the current style, to create more room for watersports or entertaining.

The helm station, with three seats, is protected by a large hardtop, with a sunroof. The side windows are large; the back of the helm deck is open. A massive sun-lounging area occupies the foredeck.

Down four steps, the master cabin is forward on the accommodation deck, with a queen-sized bed. A guest cabin is aft, tucked under the helm, with berths for two. The galley is at the foot of the stairs to starboard; an L-shaped lounge is to port, with a table.

Verve is the entry-level line for Azimut. They’re sold in the United States by MarineMax.
