Greenline Launches New Hybrid-Powered 45 Coupe

Greenline just launched its new 45 Coupe, a hybrid cruiser than can run on all-electric or diesel power. It’s the newer version of the 45 Flybridge, with the same easy lines, but with more room on the cabin top for solar panels.

All told, the 45 Coupe has eight panels, and they can generate a charge of 15kWh, enough to run the boat with four people on board without having to start the generator.

Running on electric power alone, the Greenline 45 has a range of about 30 nm at 5 knots, enough to cruise around nearby coves and harbors and get back safely – without making any noise or leaving any fossil fuel emissions behind. You can extend the range by turning on the generator.

But then all you have to do is push a button and the Greenline switches to diesel power. Depending on a variety of possible engines, this can provide a speed of up to 30 knots, but the diesels also automatically charge the batteries via the boat’s electric motor (serving as a generator). It takes just two hours of running under diesel to provide a full battery recharge.

You can see a video of how the hybrid system works below.

Standard power on the new hybrid is twin 220-hp Volvos, with a top speed of 18 knots. Twin 320-hp Yanmars produce 20 knots; 370-hp Yanmars top out at 25 knots, while Volvo IPS600s will take the boat up to the 30 knot max.

The new Greenline offers a two- or three-cabin layout below. The master (pictured below) is full-beam amidships, an unusual feature for a boat this size, and in the two-cabin layout it has a large walk-in wardrobe on the starboard side and a settee and the head on the port side. The VIP cabin is in the bow, also with the large wardrobe and an en suite head. In the three-cabin layout, the third cabin takes the place of the wardrobes.

You can climb on the board the 45 Coupe from the teak swim platform aft; it can be raised or lowered by hydraulics. Three teak steps lead up to the aft cockpit, which is protected overhead by the long overhang of the cabin top. A large settee and teak table are aft.

Glass doors lead to the salon, which has windows all around for natural light plus an opening skylight (an unusual feature for a solar-powered boat) forward. The U-shaped galley is aft on the starboard side, serving both the salon and the cockpit. A two-person settee is just forward of the galley, leading to the helm, with seating for two. A door at the helm opens to the side deck for access to line handling. A U-shaped settee and dinette table are on the port side.
