Arkup Launches New, 8.5-Knot, 40 Floating Home

Arkup, the innovative Miami startup, just launched its latest yacht/houseboat/floating home, a 40-footer that provides what the company calls “the ultimate user experience.”

Arkup launched its first project, a 70-footer, more than two years ago, and so far it’s been featured in Architectural Digest, among other publications, and several music videos. The 70 carried a price tag of just under $6 million. We don’t have a price on the new 40 yet, but it’s certainly aimed at a broader market.

The appeal of an Arkup is that it has four retractable stainless steel columns, or “spuds,” that can be deployed from the corners to anchor the boat in place. On the 40, they are 20 feet long. They offer complete stability for the water home, and they have the ability to lift it above the water in a storm or high tide.

The new Arkup is 40 feet long with a 16-foot beam, and 2,380 square feet of space. It has panoramic floor-to-ceiling impact windows all around, and a ceiling height of 7’ 6.”

It’s also mobile. In the solar-electric version, power comes from a 67-hp Torqeedo electric motor, solar panels on the awning, and a 40-kWh li-ion battery. A plain-vanilla diesel version comes with a 60-hp diesel engine; the Arkup 40 has a 400 gallon fuel tank. The company says it cruises at 8.5 knots.

The 40 has a multi-purpose design, but it can be launched as a two-bedroom, two-bath water home with the possibility of one or more decks, including a wraparound. The decks have catamaran netting so guests can lounge or enjoy watersports; each deck can hold up to 30 people.

The rooftop has 640 square feet of space, 360-degree views, an embedded lounge and the helm station. Read more:
