Zeelander, the Dutch builder of distinctive luxury yachts, just announced details of its new 48-foot Zeelander 5 at the Cannes Yachting Festival. The new yacht, available with three Volvo IPS650 pod drives, will have a top speed of 45 knots. It will be launched next year at the company’s yard in Groot-Ammers, just east of Rotterdam.
The Zeelander 5 carries all the lines and amenities that have marked the brand, particularly its gracious curves and generous tumblehome leading to a large sun lounge and swim platform that fold out from the transom. The fit and finish, including elegant woods and hand-stitched leather, are super-yacht quality.
“At Zeelander, we want to inspire people to be extraordinary,” says Sietse Koopmans, the company’s founder. “The Zeelander 5 is an embodiment of that philosophy. A sophisticated yacht that stands out and can be personalized to its owner’s taste.”
The yacht’s salon has windows all around for a 360-degree view from the helm. An electric sunroof overhead lets in more light, and a table has seating for eight to ten guests. The galley is ready for cruising, and a retractable sliding window aft offers a connection to the cockpit.
The cockpit comes with a plush U-shaped lounge and an elegant table, while there’s more seating forward, against the bulkhead. Doors open on both sides for easy boarding; there’s also a passarelle.
When the transom opens out, two large steps lead down to the super-sized swim platform, which is equipped with sun lounges. There’s also a sun lounge area on the foredeck.
Below, the master cabin is aft with a walk-around bed and a dedicated dressing area has a leather-clad dressing table. The master also has a large en suite head and shower. The guest cabin is forward with a V-shaped bed and its own head and shower.
Standard power is twin 370-hp Volvo IPS500 pod drives, producing a 34-knot top speed. One upgrade is twin 480-hp IPS650s, with a 36-knot speed, and then there are triple 650s, moving up to 45 knots.
