Burger is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, boat builder in the United States. In fact, Burger has been building yachts, usually large yachts, at its plant in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, since 1864.

In the summer of 2018, Burger made a big move toward a more popular size, and launched a 48-foot cruiser with a hull from the Dutch design firm Vripack and power from Volvo’s IPS pod drives. Since then it has launched a 50 and a 66.

Now, the company has another idea, a 63 sportfishing motor yacht, also designed by Vripack, and also with IPS power. Like the other Burgers, the new 63 would have an aluminum hull.

The idea behind the 63 is to combine the space and luxury of a motor yacht with a dedicated cockpit and flybridge made for sportfishing. The 63, says Jim Ruffolo, the president and CEO of Burger Boat Company, is for owners “who seek a limitless life of island hopping, open-water fishing and adventure sports.” He said, “This new yacht is the perfect invitation to go out, create excitement and see the world in your own luxurious setting.”

Vripack designed the 63 with its patented Slide Hull, which is meant to increase comfort on board in all types of sea conditions, while improving the boat’s speed, handling and fuel efficiency.

Per its custom, Burger says an owner can customize the 63 to his or her requirements. But the basic boat is powered by three 1,000-hp Volvo IPS1350 pod drives, producing a top speed of 35 knots and a cruising speed of 30 knots, with a range of 600 nm.

Built to large-yacht standards by Burger’s craftsmen, the interior has three staterooms below, all with en suite heads. On the main deck, the salon and galley have retractable glass panels to offer either privacy or an open plan for entertaining and relaxing.

The cockpit, built for fishing, is separated from the salon by a mezzanine. Up top, the flybridge can hold a tender, and an owner could add an enclosed flybridge or even a tuna tower.
