Bavaria Launches 36 Family Cruiser

Bavaria Yachts has launched its new SR36 family cruiser, a scaled-down version of the popular SR41 it introduced a year ago, but with slightly more aggressive styling.

The sporty new 36 from the German builder of sail and power boats is a two-cabin, one-head family cruiser that’s designed for safe cruising and comfortable living and entertaining on board. Bavaria is offering the boat with a variety of power options, from twin 240-hp to 350-hp gas or diesel engines.

The lines for the Bavaria SR36 are from Marco Casali of Too-Design, an architect and superyacht designer in Rome who says that the Porsche 911 is one of the best designs of all time.

You can order it with an enclosed hard top or open back. There’s a large sunroof either way, and visibility from the helm, in the open version, is excellent all around. A two-person seat is to port, opposite the helm. Just aft of the helm, a large wet bar serves as a social area, with a settee and table opposite to port.

Aft, the cockpit has a clever layout, where guests can sit on a U-shaped settee facing aft to oversee the large teak swim platform and any water sports starting there. There’s a high-low table there, and the unit can be converted to a large sun pad, with storage underneath. Or the settee back can be realigned to face forward to become part of the social scene on deck.

Wide teak side decks, protected by high stainless steel railings, run forward to the foredeck, with another large sun pad.

Below, the master stateroom is amidships, with a large double berth that can be converted to two singles. There’s also a sofa that could serve as an extra bed. The other cabin is forward with a double bed. You can order this as a private cabin, separated from the lower salon area by a bulkhead, or open, separated by just a privacy curtain. A compact galley is on the port side. A dinette is to starboard.

Specs.: LOA: 38’4”; Beam: 12’8”; Draft: 3’2” Disp.: NA; Fuel: 132 gals.; Water: 66 gals.; Power: Twin gas or diesel, from 240-hp to 350-hp. Read more:
