OTAM Redesigns 58 GTS for Cannes Launch

The new, fast and sporty OTAM 58 GTS will make its world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival, starting Sept 6. The new OTAM, named Bad Boy, is powered by twin 1,825-hp MTU diesels with Arneson surface drives and massive Rolla props; it tops out at more than 55 knots.

Bad Boy is actually the 26th hull of OTAM’s 58 series, but it’s been redesigned to take its Gran Turismo Sport legend up a notch. OTAM often builds larger yachts at its yard near Genoa, and it can customize the 58 for each owner’s desires.

OTAM worked with Giuseppe Bagnardi of the BG Design Firm in Rome to redesign the 58 series, starting with Bad Boy. It  has large open areas inside and out, and the deckhouse is designed to be semi-open (or semi-closed) for comfort at higher speeds or changing weather conditions. The boat’s aerodynamic profile produces less turbulence, which also produces a more comfortable ride.

The deckhouse has been restyled with a raked windshield and wrap-around glazing. At the owner’s request, Bad Boy has a custom Böning console at the helm station.

The helm station is on the port side, with a seat for two. An inviting L-shaped lounge, a table, and a bar area a bit aft.

Two air intakes are integrated into the hardtop and funnel air directly to the engine compartment under two large sun pads on either side of a central walkway. They can be raised hydraulically for access to the engines and equipment.

One thing that hasn’t changed is the 58’s hull, designed by Tagliavini Marine Design. It is laid up with a mix of Aramat and vinylester resin for speed, safety and comfort.

Below, a large cabin with a walkaround bed is forward, with an en suite head. A guest cabin is aft a bit on the port side, also with an en suite head, and the galley is to starboard. A small crew cabin, with its own head, is aft of the galley.

The OTAM 58 GTS has an LOA  of 62’ 9.” Read more:
