Front Street Launches 41-Foot Custom Hunt

The Front Street Shipyard in Belfast, Maine, just launched a new 41-foot custom dayboat named Blue Chip that it made in collaboration with Ray Hunt Design.

The new boat, with its classic Down East lines, low profile and long sheer represents an iconic Hunt design, with the deep-V hull that C. Raymond Hunt first developed for its superior blue-water performance more than 60 years ago. The boat is powered by twin 480-hp Volvo IPS650 pod drives, with a top speed of 38 knots and a cruising speed of 32 knots.

The topsides and deck are cored fiberglass with vinylester resin for light weight and strength. The interior has varnished cherry cabinetry that contrasts with white panels and the oiled teak sole in the salon.

“This elegant, functional design epitomizes a classic Maine-built boat, which we’re proud to build,” said JB Turner, the president of Front Street Shipyard.

Front Street built it for a private client who wants to cruise with his family or a small group of friends in New England waters. The cockpit is laid out for socializing, but there’s also a hidden fish box and recessed rod holders to keep any anglers on board happy.

The boat has a large front windshield and side windows for visibility in all directions. A sliding door next to the helm on the starboard side opens to the side deck for docking or line-handling.

There’s a two-person seat under the windshield on the foredeck, and a seat across the transom aft. Individual aft-facing seats placed forward in the cockpit are protected by a short overhang from the cabin top.

Below, the new boat has a cabin with a head and an enclosed shower for an occasional overnight cruise.
