Scout Boats just unveiled its new 67 LX, a long, lean, $5 million, 3,000-hp speed machine. There’s a model of the boat at Scout’s display at the Miami show; the real thing won’t be launched until the spring of 2024.

The Scout 67 LX is large enough so you won’t have to leave any friends behind, and its five 600-hp Mercury V12 Verado outboards mean you’ll be able to give them an adrenaline rush underway. Top speed is projected at 52 knots, with a range of about 435 nm at 35 knots.

The new Scout flagship (its largest so far is a 53) was designed by the Harrison Eidsgaard studio in London, and it’s meant to make a statement. Eidsgaard usually works with superyachts and luxury aircraft, including Boeing business jets.

When launched, the Scout 67 LX will be one of the largest outboard-powered boats in the world. It is somewhat reminiscent of the HCB 65, with five or six Merc outboards, that was launched a few years ago; an earlier HCB 53 was cool enough to appear in an episode of Billions.

For its part, Scout refers to the 67 LX as “Project Everest.” It has a stepped-V hull, similar to the Scout 53. The hull will be molded from epoxy-infused carbon fiber and e-glass. The wheelhouse gives the boat a coupe style look, with very cool wraparound dark glass.

Founded in 1989 in Summerville, South Carolina, Scout today has a state-of-the-art factory. Steve Potts, its founder and CEO, says that the company’s investment in processes, tools, equipment and training will make the 67 LX “the absolute best boat in its class with a Class A finish and best strength-to-weight ratio.”

And the company is expanding, adding a new $4.5 million plant to the four others already on its 36-acre property. It also plans to hire 200 more workers, in addition to the 425 already there.
