New wallypower58 Debuts in Miami

The elegant, minimalist new wallypower58 is making its U.S. debut at the Miami show this week, bringing a bit of glamour from the Med to Biscayne Bay.

The new 58 is marked by its clean lines and Wally’s wraparound glazing on the sweep of the windshield that envelops the salon. Although it probably will be used mostly as a day boat, it does have room to sleep four for overnights.

Wally was founded in Monaco in 1994 by Luca Bassani, who launched an iconic and award-winning line of sail and power boats. Wally is the only yacht builder to win the ADI Compasso d’Oro Award (twice) for quality and design. The Ferretti Group bought Wally in 2019.

The exterior of the new wallypower58 was designed by Wally and the Ferretti Group. The interior by Ideaeitalia.

The new boat has Wally’s customary deep-V hull for offshore performance in line with Wally’s goal of providing a fast, and comfortable, ride in all sea conditions. Standard power is twin 550-hp Volvo IPS700 pod drives, with a top speed of 36 knots, with an upgrade to 600-hp Volvo IPS800s and 38 knots.

The modernistic salon has a large glass and carbon-fiber dome, while a deep sofa and a multi-sided table are meant for relaxing and entertaining. Cabinets line both sides, and each owner can decide how to dedicate those spaces to a galley with fridges and cooktops or something else.

With Wally, design is king. The 58, for example, has a “magic porthole” in the master stateroom below, so that a real porthole does not interrupt the design of the hull sides. Instead of a porthole, Wally has installed a video camera on each side of the boat; the cameras are connected to screens that provide a sweeping view of the outside world.

The aft deck is covered by a sun pad that’s large enough for four adults, and “wings” fold down from both sides of the bulwarks to create a larger deck space. Push a button, and an awning swings out over the deck, like the roof of a convertible car. Another button will lower the swim platform into the water to make it easy to launch and retrieve the tender or enjoy water sports.
