The new Sargo 45, the flagship of the Finnish builder’s fleet, is heading for Liberty Landing Marina in New Jersey, where it will be the first 45 in North America.

After commissioning there, it will cruise up the Hudson and take the basic Great Loop route to Chicago or Duluth, where it will be put on a truck and driven to the Inside Passage Yacht Sales docks on Lopez Island, Washington (unless it’s sold along the way).

A tough, user-friendly, all-season cruiser, the Sargo 45 has wide side doors opening to the pilothouse, plus a gate in the hull side for easy boarding. The 45 is designed around the pilothouse with symmetrical walkaround decks for safe movement underway. It’s a heavily built cruiser with a fine entry to part the waves and some bow flare to keep the foredeck dry.

Double-glazed windows insulate the pilothouse from both cold and hot weather outside; a large opening sunroof provides lots of light and ventilation in good weather. Three seats are on the port side, opposite the single helm seat to starboard. A large U-shaped settee and a dining table are aft to port; push a button and the table lowers so the area becomes a two-person sleeping area. The galley is along the starboard side.

The basic Sargo 45 is a two-cabin, two-head cruiser, although you also can order a third cabin. The master cabin is forward, with an en suite head; the guest cabin, with two beds set athwartships, is aft, also with an en suite head.

Aft, there’s an L-shaped settee in the cockpit, with occasional chairs. More seating is on the foredeck.

Basic power comes from twin 440-hp Volvo IPS600 pod drives, with an upgrade to twin 480-hp Volvo IPS650s. Top cruising speed is about 30 knots.

Specs.: LOA: 47’9”; Beam: 13’9”; Draft: 3’9”; Disp.: 26,460 lbs.; Fuel: 528 gals.; Water: 132 gals.; Power: 2×440-hp Volvo IPS600 pod drives, or 2×480-hp Volvo IPS650 pod drives.
